Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 3 Studio Earphones: An Inexpensive Pair

earphones(Review) – We’ve evaluated an abundance of high-end earphones and headphones, and even though they all claim to be the best products in their category, the truth is that unless you are a professional musician who needs perfect audio (whether or not you can hear it), there’s no need to spend $500 on a pair of earphones or headphones. For the majority of us, $200 should be the maximum price point we should opt for. Once you pass the aforementioned price tag, chances are you probably won’t recognize the minute intricacies of sound; it’ll be somewhat like a placebo effect, which will make you believe you are hearing superior audio quality even though, in reality, you might not be noticing any difference. This is not to say something’s wrong with you, but in order to analyze the “perfectness” of sound, you must either be trained or have extremely good hearing (or both) to be able to analyze differences among the highest of high-end earphones and headphones. Due to this, we’ve decided to take a break from reviewing world’s top class headphones and earphones to a pair that’s more within everyone’s reach (budget wise). Additionally, the Super.Fi 3 Studio earphones come from a company that’s relatively unknown except those that follow this industry. How well do they hold up? Let’s find out…

Product Analysis:

Physically, there isn’t too much to discuss except the in-canal design. The concept behind the in-canal design is for listeners to insert the earphones deep into the ear. As you would expect, there are both upsides and downsides to this. The upsides are: you won’t have to increase the volume in order to block out excess noise, which would prevent hearing loss in the long run. Furthermore, the earphones would be securely inserted inside the ear to naturally block out noise by creating a barrier between the ear canal and the excess noise. The downsides with this design are: you must always have wax-free ears if you want to keep the earphones clean and sanitary. Moreover, the in-canal earphones could prove to be more dangerous with hearing loss if you generally prefer to listen to music at above healthy listening levels. These points must be noted when considering an in-canal pair of earphones.

Ultimate Ears promises to support a precision balanced speakers for full range, high output sound without distortion. The Super.Fi 3 Studio also offers an audio filter that filters out disturbances in sound to clarify and augment the overall quality. The earphones themselves are quite comfortable to wear with a lightweight design and support a professional color scheme (available in white, black and clear). As stated earlier, the natural noise isolating technology is also present with flexible ear loops and a plethora of accessories.

The Super.Fi 3 Studio earphones are packed with additional eartips to fit majority of the ear structures, plus, you’ll also get a leather carrying case to house everything securely for your mobile entertainment necessities.

Performance Summary:

Throughout our testing, we noted the audio quality to be exceptional. The notes, pitches and chords were precise and to-the-point. The audio was well defined and regardless the volume configurations, there was no distortion in sound. With that said, the bass was somewhat weak, so if you are planning on purchasing these earphones for gaming or heavy hitting genres, we suggest you look at other viable options. Other than the bass issue, we were left quite impressed with this inexpensive pair of Super.Fi Studio 3 earphones.

We’ve already pointed out a few of the drawbacks that are not exclusive to this particular pair, but to all in-canal designs. Those drawbacks include the need to have clean ears before using the earphones and to be careful with volume settings when you are so close to the eardrum.

Specifically, the Ultimate Ears comes with the perfect amount of accessories that should be standard with any pair. Additionally, the earphones are comfortable to listen to and generally produce quality audio unless you are listening to bass centric music. In that regard, as we pointed out previously, there are better options than the Super.Fi Studio 3 earphones.

Throughout the review, we’ve been hinting on the affordability of these earphones and whether or not you agree with us, the fact of the matter is that when you compare the price tag of this pair to its high-end competitors, these truly are inexpensive. At the time of publication, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (and average retail price) was $99.99 at numerous online retailers.

Overall, Super.Fi 3 Studio pair of earphones is the pair to get unless you listen to bass centric music
