Would You Pay $1 Million for a Laptop?

Things are getting bizarre in the personal technology industry, as you can tell from the price tag of $1MM for a notebook computer from London-based Luvaglio. Although we couldn’t confirm the specifications of the notebook, let’s assume it supports the latest hardware, not that it would make any difference. What’s so special about the Luvaglio? It’s coated with diamonds and other jewels on the chassis of the notebook. Of course, you will get it in a specially designed case and whatnot.

(Column) – Things are getting bizarre in the personal technology industry, as you can tell from the price tag of $1MM for a notebook computer from London-based Luvaglio.

Clearly, there is no obvious use of the notebook. I would be surprised to know if someone who can afford a $1MM notebook would actually use it on a regular basis. It’s a collector’s item to be sure. However, where’s the practicality? Sure, I understand Luvaglio is playing off the exotic factor of the notebook, similar to art and exotic cars. That’s fine.

Here’s the amusing part, though. While you can admire art by hanging it on the wall or take your exotic car out for a spin once in a while, how would you justify purchasing a diamond crusted notebook? What would you do to use it occasionally? Take it out for a web browsing session every so often? Hopefully, it doesn’t come with Vista quite yet – with the security issues and whatnot. I know I wouldn’t want to deal with Vista on a $1MM notebook right now.

Oh, and Luvaglio, nice touch on limiting your website "By Appointment Only."

Let me know, would you purchase a $1MM notebook? Would you actually use it?
