Dell Is Cutting Costs And Going Mobile
According to this report from ComputerWorld, Dell is anxious to get into the mobile phone market. Apparently Dell feels they are ready to try venturing into a new market while using their existing customer base as a catalyst to get things off the ground. To meet with other unrelated challenges, Dell is also going to be merging their consumer and business divisions into a single unit to help them reduce costs in this tight economy.
What does this mean to you?
Dell has had great success with their PCs and notebook sales over the years, however not so much when it comes to smaller devices. The Dell DJ is one such example of Dell trying to venture off into a new market and failing miserably at it. I see the same likely with Dell trying their hand in the mobile market. Unless they can take something like Android or Windows Mobile and do something substantially different, no one is going to care. It will not work.
