PC Worlds reports that while others wait for the Apple Tablet, others are taking the lead in producing a variety of Android powered tablet computers. These tablets, are said to be destined to work as eBook readers, video viewing appliances, among a number of other web based functions. There is also news of Microsoft working on a tablet of their own. Microsoft’s tablet is expected to be unlike anything produced yet using the Android OS from a visual standpoint.

What does this mean to you?

Even if you are an Android fan, I see the low cost entry point for the OS and the hardware that will support it, likely being a turn off for those wanting something truly worthwhile. That and the fact that unless you don’t already have a notebook, the value of owning such an appliance is a difficult thing to grasp. These tablets are to read and surf the Web. Clearly we can hold out hope for something more exciting from Microsoft.
