Flash Games Finally Here On iPhone
New startup OneAppAtATime is working on developing a “network” for iPhone flash games
with help from Adobe. The company has gotten access to Adobe’s Flash developer software beta and is using it to its advantage to get a head start on the competition, although Adobe promises to make the beta available to everyone by the end of 2009. According to Founder Evan Henshaw-Plath, the idea is to have developers either create flash games from scratch or port over their existing games to flash with the total cost ranging from a few hundred dollars to a thousand. That’s relatively cheap, and I hope OneAppAtATime can actually help developers make that happen.
Plath also confirms that his idea is to have flash games take advantage of the iPhone’s full capabilities including accessing its GPS, contacts and the accelerometer to make them as immersive as possible. In addition, he will also help promote individual apps through social media and in-app advertising in apps that are a part of the startup’s iPhone app network.
How much is OneAppAtATime is charging for all of this? 35% of all revenues that the gaming app brings in, or the developer gets to take home 50% after you calculate Apple’s 30% cut. Not that there would be a lot of difference, I’m presuming, in flash apps vs. the native ones that are already on the iPhone, but I’d want to see flash push the envelope on the iPhone.
