Apple to Debut Tablet in January, Asks Developers to Get Apps Ready

The wait on the Apple tablet may finally be over. Rumors suggest Apple is working on demoing the highly anticipated tablet at a special event in January. However, while everyone has been expecting a tablet in the 10″-12″ range, the company will demo the tablet with a 7″ display. That fuels fire to a new round of rumors. Now the Boy Genius reports that a 7″ tablet is 100 percent likely. That could mean that Apple will announce more than a single model in the future – in the 10″-12″ display range. The tablet will also have a higher resolution.

Apple has supposedly asked a few developers to ready their apps for the new form factor. An SAI source claims, “They’ve told select developers that as long as they build their apps to support full screen resolution — rather than a fixed 320×480 — their apps should run just fine.” Do note that Apple is only expected to demo the unit in January, and it will not be for sale for sometime after the demo. That could be to give enough time to developers to make sure their apps are compatible with the new device.

With CES fast approaching and plenty of companies looking to make a splash with tablets of their own, presumably with Android on board, Apple is seriously looking to steal their thunder. Not that it should come as a surprise to anyone.
