iMacs Continue to See Problems Despite Patch

Even with Apple releasing their patch to fix the iMac issues affecting the 27″ iMacs, issues continue to appear.  According to The Next Web, the iMac flickering problem has not been cured as described by Apple. Seems that the firmware update has not been able to completely cure the problem with flickering screens for some 27″ iMac users.

What does this mean to you?

I’m glad I’m not a Mac owner, although my wife is. Lucky for her, she has one of the Intel iMacs before this became a problem, however. If I was one of the affected iMac owners, I’d be screaming for a refund. It’s not like you can just swap out the monitor here! Flickering and all, you are stuck with it. So I’d say that until Apple can get this fixed, they better be giving away free computer glasses away with each sale of a 27″ iMac. At least this would be evidence of them dealing with the problem.

I for one am holding off on buying an iMac until Apple fixes this issue. If we're going to shell out the amount of money Apple charges for their machines, I think we're entitled to expect NO problems like this.

The issue (reading on Apple support forums) seems to not necessarily be consistent - sometimes the problem shows up right away, sometimes it takes a few weeks. Sometimes there is a yellow tinge on the screen, sometimes there isn't. Sometimes the "patch" fixes the problem, sometimes it doesn't. I think people should hold off on buying this until Apple figures out what the problem is.
  • @Jonathan: I'm sure they already have. They wouldn't want to lose money like this. After the problem was revealed, I'm sure they fixed the next batch.
  • Apple indeed does have a problem on their hand but happy customers tell one person unhappy tell 300 people. The issue seems to be a very small portion of the 27" iMac. I have one that works to perfection and has for over a month now. Taking into account this issue an iMac is still head over heels a hell of lot better computer than any Window machine especially Dell.
  • I agree with your sentiment. Apple, just like every company, has a tendency to make a mistake or two like this every so often. I can understand users feeling annoyed about it, though.
