Microsoft Dumps Custom XML From Office 2007

Some of you may remember our previous post about Microsoft losing their ability to sell MS Word due to a lost court battle. We’ve learned today just what has been lost in MS Word so that Microsoft can once again retail their word processing product. It seems that Microsoft has been forced to give up the ability to create or read custom XML within MS Office created documents. The good news, according to ZDNET, is that this removal only applies to copies of Word sold after the injunction date.

What does this mean to you?

Since I’ve not used the latest copies of MS Office personally, I can’t really speak to whether there is really a huge loss here. Honestly, I doubt this will affect most people in the slightest. The biggest news here is that Microsoft will be able to continue selling copies of Word despite earlier concerns of a complete halt.
