As if this is a surprise. According to the latest CTIA report, users send over 4 billion text messages daily, instead of actually talking on the phone. With the![]()
average length of the call at a little over three minutes earlier in the decade, that number in 2009 has dropped to almost two minutes – a drop of 33%. What that also means if that every person with a data connection (the study is lenient towards smartphone users) sends and receives 17 text messages daily.
And for all the carriers that are worried about excess data usage, don’t worry, CTIA shows off your progress, too. The report suggests carriers are generating higher revenues than in the past and their margins are comparatively higher on the data use. Really? Who would’ve thought AT&T and Verizon could be making money on their excessively expensive data plans? Other than the fact that we all need to quit texting and maybe make a call or two every so often, you know, to better connect with people, everything is just fine with the mobile industry.
