Apple Behind Slate Computing for iSlate Tablet
After we revealed the information that Apple was behind the domain name iSlate.com earlier this week, turns out there’s more to the news on the name. The iPhone maker also owns what appears to be a shell company, Slate Computing, LLC., for the purpose of securing a trademark on the name iSlate. The trademark was registered in November 2006 and the signatory was Apple’s Trademark Specialist, Regina Porter, as Apple Insider reports.
In another report, TechCrunch reveals Apple had filed for trademark protection in the European Union as well through the same law firm that helped Apple secure trademark protection for the iPhone. Slate Computing also owns the trademark for “Magic Slate,” a similar naming convention to the Magic Mouse. The rumors are getting interesting, and we are paying way too much attention to it. It’d be fun to see what the final name of the tablet ends up being after all this back and forth.
