T-Mobile G1 May Get Android 2.0 Update

While we keep working on giving you as much information as we can possibly find on the Google Nexus One, don’t forget the phone that started it all – the G1 from T-Mobile. It was this device that introduced the Android to us, and it was this same device that should’ve given us insight into Google’s lust for the mobile market to make a grab for it heavily in 2009. Latest rumors suggest T-Mobile’s G1 maybe getting an upgrade to Android 2.0, or to the slightly updated 2.0.1, in the near future. There’s no word on when, or if, that will happen.

Personally, upgrading the G1 to support Android 2.0 would be an overkill for a device that can barely run 1.6 on it. The hardware specs just aren’t there to support such a massive OS upgrade.

  • @crazydude: How is that a criticism? A device isn't supposed to, or required to, keep supporting newer versions of a mobile OS forever. It has to eventually be replaced. You're right, I don't have the G1 on me right now. However, I've updated one and see how much lag there can be on the G1. It's nuts. Again, it has nothing to do with Android but the limited hardware that's in it.

again there goes another criticism...lol...when are you going to learn gundeep. i am reading your articles about android is just a lie. like again you told me in the other article, that you don't have one yourself and still saying that the G1 isn't capable of handling the rom. well think outside of the box. the impossible is the possible. actually the donut firmware 1.6 is running a lot smoother, cause i have one myself. you again on the other hand don't and have an idon't (iphone). it may carry about 96 of internal memory but the phone is a darn good phone. come on it went from a 1.1 firmware to cupcake 1.5 and now donut 1.6, so obviously if it can't handle the update, then why are they still making the update for it???? well i guess you're wrong in your case. it can handle the rom. i have rooted my G1 before and man its so much better.
