AT&T to FCC: Landlines Must Go
AT&T has put the FCC on notice that as long as VoIP continues to threaten POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), there is little point in continuing to support this communication relic of a forgotten time. AT&T is dead set that landlines must die. The article goes on to explain that AT&T fully expects the FCC to get right on arranging POTS final days. In exchange, AT&T has expressed that they would like to take the funds being tossed into the hole that is POTS service, and instead, work on bettering their own “higher tech” resources.
What does this mean to you?
Perhaps for the first time in my life, I find myself agreeing with AT&T on something! Yes, without question POTS needs to be put to bed. And AT&T asking the FCC to help make this happen is totally understandable. The question at this point is whether or not we will see AT&T helping the FCC pick out a casket for POTS or if it will remain on life support.
