Browsers: Google vs. Apple

Although Apple’s Safari browser has been around longer, Google’s Chrome browser looks to be catching up and then some. Our earlier report demonstrates how Chrome beat Safari for the number 3 spot already. Then today this conclusion was driven home again, thanks to eWeek’s own report. Early indications suggest that Linux users are helping Google Chrome in general popularity, despite Apple users installing Chrome overshadowing them in hard numbers.

What does this mean to you?

Look at Firefox. Because this browser embraced all three platforms early on, their market share exploded in turn. I see Google’s Chrome browser doing the same thing. So despite Linux being used less in physical numbers, don’t underestimate their browser loyalty. Buzz coming from Linux release events do wonders for general popularity of any software product, even a cross-platform Web browser.
