Apple App Store Hits 3 Billion Downloads, Attacks Google
Apple couldn’t just let Google take all the limelight away with its Nexus One launch earlier today. It, too, made the announcement that Apple’s App Store has hit 3 billion downloads in three months after it hit 2 billion downloads. Naturally, one of the reasons for the accelerated downloads was the holiday season, which was a record sales quarter for iPhone/iPod Touch devices. Independent reports have also confirmed that the last week of December showed unusual spike in downloads in the App Store. Makes sense. And Jobs being his usual catty self, said the following of the competition:
“Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months–this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”
Yeah, Steve, don’t let Google threaten and pass you by.
