Google Nexus One Sells 20,000 Units in One Week

After much excitement last week over Google’s Nexus One, we have first week’s sales numbers to see how that excitement resulted for Google. Unfortunately, Google only managed to sell 20,000 units of its super-smartphone independently. That number is a bit low considering how much hype there was before the imminent launch of the device. As InfoSyncWorld rightfully points out, while Google is challenging the wireless industry as a whole, its device is facing a critical problem – how to stand out from every other smartphone in the market. The hardware specs. can only differentiate the product for so long because it becomes irrelevant, and that’s exactly what has happened.

Google Nexus One might see its numbers go up when it partners with Verizon to offer a CDMA version of the device at a subsidized price in spring. In the meantime, the numbers are lackluster at best and does not do justice to the amount of hype that was involved with the launch.
