Top 10 Reasons Why Nexus One is Bad for Google

eWeek is at it again with another top 10 list of why the Nexus One could tarnish Google as a brand. After its top 10 reasons of why no one should buy the Nexus One, let’s see what the new list has in store for us this time. Just like the last time, we’ve summarized their overly worded list to make it easy to digest and comment on.

  1. Google is the good company – the phone doesn’t live up to Google’s promises, and users are used to seeing success with everything that Google has ever launched; therefore, it can only tarnish the company’s brand as the one with a golden touch
  2. The Nexus One is expensive – at $529 without a subsidized price, the Nexus One is expensive
  3. Getting off of the Nexus One is costly – if you want to get rid of the contract, Google will ask you to pay $350 for early termination, plus T-Mobile’s $200 for early contract termination
  4. Tech support is abysmal – customer service is terrible for the phone
  5. The purchasing experience isn’t there -buying the phone online is a poor experience
  6. It’s no iPhone – the device can’t compete against the iPhone
  7. Where’s the face-to-face support? – no face-to-face support like the Apple Store Genius Bar
  8. It’s not improving – Google is taking its sweet time releasing updates for the phone
  9. The Microsoft fear – Google is going the same path as Microsoft and opening itself to security issues and poor market perception with Nexus One
  10. Customers remember the bad – customers are unforgiving and will always remember the bad

We don’t know where to start counter-arguing with the list. It’s obviously preposterous and besides the customer service point, everything else is nonsense at best. Sound off in our comments and let us know what you think.

  • This is a poorly written article and not even close to truth. In my opinion the Nexus One is great for Google. I see this as FUD.

It sounds like someone at eWeek has something against Google. The lack of customer service is a real problem, but eWeek's contention that Nexus One "can't compete with the iPhone on any level" is ridiculous. It has a sleek design, twice the RAM, a faster processor, a better camera, and a growing application market. The iPhone's UI is a little more intuitive, but Android 2.1 is more flexible without being as complicated as WinMo or Symbian. Even Steve Wozniak called it a good phone.
  • They don't have anything against Google. It's just that so many people are commenting about the Nexus One in good light, eWeek prefers to be the critical of the bunch to get some traffic coming their way. Welcome to the world of new media! :)
