AT&T, Verizon Fight Over Apple Tablet
Despite Apple’s decision to work with AT&T and Verizon simultaneously for the Apple tablet, both companies are taking their gloves off for the final round. Neither company is holding back and letting go off the other without taking a jab at the now obvious network overload problems. Verizon is being its ignorant and overconfident self, while AT&T is snickering at Verizon’s ignorance. We’ll spare ourselves the trouble to summarize what they are saying, but here are a few hilarious quotes that Fox News got from both companies.
Verizon: “Our 3G network covers 287 million Americans,” says Verizon spokesman Jeff Nelson. “We didn’t build a network and then cross our fingers that devices would work on it. When we built our network we built it with these devices in mind. AT&T didn’t, and that’s the difference.”
AT&T Responds: “No one would believe for one second that the Droid caused an iPhone-like spike in data usage,” laughed AT&T spokesman Mark Siegal. ”With the iPhone we saw a 7,000 percent increase in data usage over the last 13 quarters.”
AT&T Continues: “AT&T recognized years ago that mobile broadband was the wave of the future. And we built our network on that fact. We’ve also been aware of complaints and have been actively investing in our 3G network, installing new towers and continuing to provide the fastest 3G network in the U.S.”
After Verizon makes a comment on offering tablet users the ability to hop on its WiFi spots for free to avoid racking up data costs, AT&T couldn’t help itself and said: “Verizon doesn’t even touch us. You can go just about anywhere and find an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot. You can’t do that with Verizon’s hot spots.”
For the record, Verizon, you need to lay off on AT&T for their obvious network problems. After you get the 4th-generation iPhone and the tablet, we’ll see how reliable your claims of having the most stable 3G network turn out to be. In the meantime, AT&T, really? You’re still going to boast about the largest network when that network hardly works? Ridiculous! Both of you get to work and quit bickering over how awesome you are. Let us, the users, decide that for you. Okay?
