This is ridiculous, in a good sort of a way. Apple’s iPad is compatible with nearly 140,000 apps right out of the box, Apple said at the press conference yesterday. Nearly all apps will work without any intervention from developers; however, if developers want to take advantage of the additional real estate, they will have to make the changes in the code.

For now, apps not compatible with the iPad will work at their original size on the 10-inch tablet. They look really odd at that size, but they work. Developers can also work on their apps to take advantage of the other features of the tablet.

Apple’s key challenge was to make existing apps play nice with the new device, and they resolved that challenge successfully. Good for them!
