Google May Have Nexus One Super Bowl Commercial

Google, the search advertising giant that has hardly advertised itself offline historically, may be prepping itself for a Super Bowl commercial later today. CEO Eric Schmidt recently tweeted, “Can’t wait to watch the Superbowl tomorrow. Be sure to watch the ads in the 3rd quarter (someone said “Hell has indeed frozen over.”),” which suggests Google may have a commercial during the third quarter of the game.

It’s unclear what the commercial will be about. TechCrunch editors believe it could either be about Google Search, which will take on Microsoft Bing, or about the Nexus One smartphone. The Nexus One commercial could bring serious attention to the device that hasn’t done well for Google in terms of sales. Either way, we’ll be looking for Google’s first ever Super Bowl commercial to see what they are up to.
