Google Working On Ultra-Fast Fiber Broadband Network

Google Internet. Perhaps the biggest thing since the concept of the Google Chrome browser, Google is apparently looking at getting into the ISP business. The Register points out that Google’s desire to get into the ISP realm is not so much to compete, rather simply to “contribute” findings from this experiment. Utilizing FiOS-like fiber optic connections directly to select homes, Google believes they can help make the Internet faster for the end-user.

What does this mean to you?

Google is full of it when they claim they don’t intend on doing anything other than contributing to speeding up our connections. They have demonstrated for years that they want to maintain control on as much data as possible. Docs, Gmail, Chrome, DNS and now an ISP-like experience. As it is, Google already has their hands into everything. Do we really want them in the ISP business as well?
