First Impressions With Windows Phone 7

Engadget released a report that basically shows us that Microsoft is willing to do whatever it takes to compete in the mobile market today. As illustrated in the article, Windows Mobile was canned and completely revamped into what is now Windows Phone 7. Even better, according to the piece, is the impression that Microsoft has gone completely minimalist with their overall design of the Windows Phone 7 OS.

What does this mean to you?

It’s a very tile-based experience. That is the impression given to us and depending on your view of a minimalist, no-nonsense approach, kudos to the developers. Personally, I’m shocked and amazed. This is so against the grain for Microsoft, it’s not even funny. But throwing caution to the wind, completely redefining how users work with their mobile devices was clearly what Windows Phone 7 is looking to bring to the table.

It's not the interface that will kill Microsoft's new Windows Phone Series 7.

It's the disenfranchisement of business users, who'll have to rewrite software. It's the lack of a vibrant software ecosystem (that Android and iPhone have). It's the lack of OEM support (compared to Android that will release 50 handsets this year).

Just like with the Zune music player, Microsoft's new Series 7 "Zune Phone" will not gain traction on the market, despite both devices having pretty interfaces. Android and iPhone have taken the market, and the door is shut on Microsoft.
