Apple CEO Steve Jobs Calls Flash “CPU Hog”

In an unsurprising twist earlier this week, Apple CEO Steve Jobs referred to Adobe Flash as a “CPU hog” in a meeting with The Wall Street Journal. Jobs was on tour to convince the WSJ to have a special iPad edition for the highly esteemed paper. When editors asked him about the lack of flash on the iPad, Jobs reportedly called Adobe’s technology a “CPU hog” that is full of “security holes.”

Not to hold back, he also said, “We don’t spend a lot of energy on old technology.” Adobe must be thrilled. Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch has been on the defensive ever since Apple started taking a jab at its technology. He has been defending flash and is open to hearing about what people, specifically his critics, had to say about the technology in hopes of making it better.

Jobs also claimed that if the iPad had flash enabled, it would reduce the device’s battery life from 10 hours to 1.5 hours.
