Motorola Splits Into Two Companies in 2011
Today’s news marks yet another shift for the multi-national company as they get ready to split into two different companies. On the eve of news regarding their latest mobile phone offering, the Backflip, Motorola has revealed that it will be splitting up into two pieces.
According to ElectricPig, the split is set to take place in 2011. The idea is that one segment of the old Motorola will continue pumping out their mobile phones, while the sister half will be heading up efforts in the set-top box arena. At one point, the company had considered dumping their mobile business altogether after the dwindling success of the once popular “Moto Razr.” But with their recent success seen with the Droid and perhaps soon with the Backflip, the company split now makes more sense for the long-term success of the brand.
