Apple Removes 5,000 Apps from App Store

Last week, Apple made a policy change with the App Store when they decided to remove “overtly sexual” apps from the store. It decided to do that after it received complaints from customers about the content of some of the apps. AppShopper, a source that keeps track of the number of apps that Apple removes on a per day basis, noticed that on February 17, Apple removed 932 apps, and later, 4,000 apps on February 18. The number stayed around the 900 mark on February 19 and 20. This number is substantially up from about 100 apps that Apple removes from its App Store, and this number includes apps that Apple removes and the ones that developers remove for whatever reason.

ChilliFresh got a hold of Apple and confirmed that Apple did remove as many as 5,000 in a matter of days. With Apple claiming to have 150,000 apps in the App Store, this removal represents 3.3% of the total app market.
