GigaOM reports that Verizon and Skype may have just signed an exclusive deal that will last 2-3 years. The article suggests Verizon may have signed this deal with a serious threat from Apple’s iPhone. However, no financial terms of the deal were immediately available.

Skype also said it’s ready to release 3G version of its Skype client for the iPhone, and that it will be ready to release the upgrade “very soon,” but it’s concerned about AT&T’s network. We don’t understand how this would be an exclusive deal with Skype working on the Apple platform as well as others.
