Consumers Don’t Want Tablets, Says Lenovo

Lenovo just refreshed its tablet-hybrid notebook computer, but it said it’s not interested in releasing a complete tablet like Apple’s iPad. The reason? The company claims customers, whether business or high school freshmen, said they are opposed to having a completely virtual input device for a keyboard. A physical keyboard is a must, said Mika Majapuro, Senior Worldwide Product Marketing Manager, Lenovo.

“It was amazing to me. At first I didn’t want to believe (our customers) but the keyboard was such a big need for them, Majapuro said. “These were 14-year old kids, who, I thought, would be most willing to try a virtual keyboard but they said no, we want the physical (built-in) keyboard.” [CNET]

This may lead observers to believe that Apple’s iPad may face resistance in the market, but perhaps that’s why Apple is pitching the iPad as a media consumption device and not as a complete notebook replacement.
