Google Street View Feeling Heat Over Privacy Concerns
In the US, Google Street View has seen its fair share of criticism. But for the most part nothing has really ever come of it short of a request to remove an image or two. In EU, however, things move at a lightning pace when it comes to overreacting. According to PCWorld, Google has been warned by the EU to purge original photos taken by the street view camera after a set amount of time.
Google has enough going on right now, clearly not needing to bow to another one of the EU’s “demands”. But I can tell you that the addition of Google Street View has made finding places a whole heck of a lot easier than with maps alone. Sometimes I need a clear idea of what the building color is, or what the location is next to. Google Street View is a huge help here. So yes, Google certainly needs to be mindful of their privacy mishaps, but in the instance of removing street view photos, the EU would be rendering the service completely useless.
