Nokia Ovi Maps Review

With Google Maps such an amazing application as it is, we hardly pay attention to alternatives in the market. After Microsoft’s attempt to get us to notice Bing, we started playing with Bing Maps, and their quality, it appears, is slightly better than Google Maps. That’s the situation that Nokia is in with its Nokia Ovi Maps application for mobile devices. It’s not the most robust mapping app in the market, but it doesn’t hurt to give something new a try.

In a review, PCMag wrote they liked that Ovi Maps was “gloriously free,” offered “accurate navigation,” had “clear, descriptive voice prompts,” and had a “search bar-based interface.”

However, they didn’t like the lack of “on-screen QWERTY keyboard (with some devices),” lack of “3D lane guidance or speed limit signs,” or that it had a “confusing UI at times.”

In conclusion, “It’s not the most intuitive GPS app I’ve tried, but Nokia Ovi Maps offers accurate, robust directions and easy Internet search—all for free on any recent Nokia device.”
