Verizon 4G LTE, What It Means to AT&T

Previously, we reported that Verizon was seeing tremendous success with their 4G network in its testing phase and that AT&T was not likely to get anything out the door for some time now. Well, if this report from ComputerWorld is any indication, then Verizon is set to beat everyone else by an easy 12-18 months. That spells big trouble for AT&T if they wish to be taken seriously by smartphone users.

The article goes on to point out that at this point, there is little to concern yourself with either network in question. Right now, it’s all 3G for the mainstream user. But if Verizon is eventually able to provide faster, more stable data connections in the long haul…well, AT&T is going to be in for a world of hurt once that happens. And this translates into a lot of unhappy iPhone users later on as well.

If Verizon had their LTE up tomorrow it would't matter. There are no LTE phones ready for manufacturing from any of the major manufacturers until 2011 at best. AT&T will time it just right.
