Apple iPad Orders Drop Sharply After Early Rush

After selling as many as 25,000 iPad devices per hour after Apple’s new mobile device went on sale for pre-order, the orders have since dropped significantly. We naturally knew Apple couldn’t possibly maintain that sell rate, but the steep drop in sales is still mind boggling.

Early estimates suggest that Apple is now selling approximately 30,000 iPad devices on weekdays, and half of that on weekends. That brings the sales-per-hour down to about 1,250 per hour on weekdays and 625 on weekends.

The analysis does caution that projecting sales one way or another wouldn’t be wise because of limited data set. Either way, Apple will still hit 1 million units soon and should not have a difficult time hitting 5 million units before the end of the year. The company has 9 months to meet that number.
