Tablets Pose No Threat to E-Readers

E-reader makers may be concerned about their products with tablets fast catching up and entering the same marketplace. However, experts say they don’t need to worry, as tablets pose little threat to e-readers.

The reason for that is simple. While tablets are high-end with more features and a higher price point, e-readers are dedicated to one activity, making them cheaper and a more attractive option to consumers who are looking to consume traditional print content.

Moreover, thanks to innovation, e-readers will continue to see their quality climb at the same, if not lower, price point. And of course, whether or not tablets are good for reading with their bright, rich displays is still up for debate. This gives e-readers an edge.

In the beginning, experts believe, we will see a number of companies offering both devices to capture the high and low-end of the market, but that trend will eventually wear off as companies find their differentiation points and stick to their core competencies long-term.
