Windows Phone 7 to Have Limited Multitasking, Similar to iPhone OS

Just like Apple’s crippled multitasking feature in the iPhone OS, Windows Phone 7 will have a similar integration for the same feature. While Microsoft’s own apps will work in the background just fine, third-party apps will be limited to various notification options.

Microsoft is using the same reason as Apple for not having full multitasking working in the background – battery life and user experience. It’s almost as though the company is dead set on copying Apple at every turn, which is expected considering Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s recent praise of Apple’s mobile strategy and platform.

What’s interesting to note is that Apple is moving ahead from this crippled approach to multitasking with support for a more wholesome option in the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0.
