Opera Submits Opera Mini Browser to App Store

Opera, the resilient, tiny browser maker has submitted the Opera Mini mobile browser for the iPhone to Apple’s App Store, reports NYTimes. Fingers crossed, Apple will approve the app and show that it’s not worried about the competition. Opera naturally believes Apple will approve the app, but we’re uncertain. We voiced our opinion on why earlier in the month when the news first broke of Opera’s intention to be on the iPhone.

What Apple has to realize is that even Opera admits that it can’t take on mobile Safari. Mobile Safari is more robust and fully functional, while the Opera Mini will be designed to consume textual content. It also doesn’t have the pinch-to-zoom feature, which Opera Co-Founder Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner said will make its way to the browser in the next update.
