AT&T to Get Intel-Based Tablet, In Addition to iPad

AT&T is rocking and rolling with tablets. After signing on with Apple for the iPad, the company is working to introduce another tablet that will debut on the carrier’s 3G network later this year. We’re unclear what “later this year” means, since the company declined to comment on availability specifics.

The tablet will be designed by OpenPeak, which is a design firm that develops products for Verizon and Telefonica. The unnamed tablet will feature Intel’s latest Atom “Moorestown” silicon for maximum battery efficiency and optimal performance.

For OpenPeak, the tablet could be used for multimedia purposes, similar to the iPad, or it could be used to monitor home energy consumption levels and other such useful features that some may find fascinating.

“Specifications that AT&T announced at CTIA include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a high-resolution 7-inch multitouch TFT LCD screen with LED backlighting, HDMI output for connection to HD televisions, dual cameras for high-definition video and still images, an onboard USB connector, and a MicroSD slot.

The device measures 9 inches by 5 inches, is 0.59 inches thick, weighs 1.15 pounds, and will be sold with a desktop docking station.” [CNET News.com]
