Sprint HTC Hero to Get Android 2.1 Update On April 9

News of Android 2.1 update keeps coming. The latest in line to get the Android 2.1 update is Sprint’s HTC Hero. In a leaked internal Sprint document, the network is supposed to release a tentative maintenance on April 9. It’s unclear how accurate the document may be.

The HTC Hero was one of the first phones with Sense UI that made the Android look exciting. It was also perhaps the first phone that got everyone excited about Android’s future as a competitive mobile OS.

The document is for a patch fix. It is NOT for the 2.1. People are going to be very disappointed. The 2.1 update is not coming until the END of April.

I just chatted with a sprint person online (7:29 p.m. march 26) and she said (Android 2.1 will be released on April 9 this is a tentative maintenance release)

It seems unfathomable that this update would be something that is totally unrelated to the 2.1 update. It's probably either the 2.1 update itself, or perhaps some sort of bootstrap update to help "grease the wheels" for a successful OTA update to 2.1.

By skipping over 1.6 and 2.0, it's possible that there was some sort of bootstrap update missed which enables making the jump to 2.1.
