Best Buy to Sell Nook, Passes On Kindle

With Target gaining access to the Amazon Kindle, one might find themselves wondering what other big box stores are going to do in response? According to Wired, Best Buy will soon be offering an e-book reader of their own. Oddly though, it won’t be a Kindle.

While Best Buy has e-book readers already, it’s the news that they will soon be offering the Barnes & Noble Nook that has the attention of the press. The story goes on to explain that the reason why Best Buy will be selling the Nook is that the e-book reader market is getting to be quite competitive. So adding their offerings to a brick and mortar store is a must at this point for those selling e-book readers.

  • That Wired article doesn't say they "passed" on the Kindle. They'll be selling a number of e-readers. It remains to be seen which ones. iRex has been slated for sale there whenever they stop postponing the DR800SG reader (or have they finally got that out?). It was to be $445 at Best Buy last November until the postponement.
