Fring Video Calling On HTC EVO 4G Disappoints

Sprint may be partnering with Qik to provide 2-way video calls for the HTC EVO 4G for a monthly charge of $4.99/month, but Fring is ready to offer video calling on Android now. PCMag got a hold of the updated application for mobile devices to review the video calling feature and they came away unimpressed.

PCMag concludes, “Overall, video calls on Fring for Android are an unimpressive experience so far. It does work and in some rare circumstances—such as Android to desktop Skype—it even works decently. But, for now, there aren’t enough reasons to justify using this video calling app. Let’s see what Qik can do when they come out with their Android video chat product next week.”

  • Ive been using Fring for Symbian for years, and as a new HTC Evo owner (as of today), I cant see myself even considering this app. Skype is so much more fine tuned that Fring, and has a much more polished feel to it. With 3g/4g getting so popular, I am very curious to see what happens to these sort of apps; considering you can use data and save on minutes.

  • Just the free version. They will charge $4.99/month for the premium version, which they will announce on June 4 alongside the HTC EVO 4G announcement.

The free version is the only version, the premium feature increases the transcoding, which is done on Qik's end. Whether the EVO has Qik without the premium service or with, it's still the same app.

Curious, did you psychically review the EVO and Fring yourself, or are you going of off what Pcmag said?
