Lack of VoIP applications on the iPhone were one of the greatest missed opportunities early on. Because of the restrictions pushed by the AT&T network, users of VoIP applications are generally locked in by the availability of the nearest WiFi access point.

According to 9to5 Mac, VoIP users working with the iPhone may finally have some reason to rejoice. The article explains that iPhone users will be able to access Skype via AT&T’s 3G network and not have to rely exclusively on WiFi. Sadly, however, Skype usage over 3G will not be free and will eventually require a monthly fee.
