Verizon May See iPad First, Then iPhone 4G

The speculation on when Verizon may introduce the Apple iPhone 4G continues as WWDC comes up fast on June 7. However, before Verizon may see the iPhone 4G in CDMA form, it makes sense for Apple and Verizon to work on introducing the iPad on Big Red. It’s logical for both companies to start working on repairing their relationship gradually with a product that’s not limited to an exclusive agreement with AT&T.

The iPad is a trendsetting product from Apple, and the company could easily work with Verizon without getting AT&T involved. Moreover, if the relationship is successful, Apple can then think of investing more resources into its relationship with Verizon and work on getting the CDMA version of the iPhone 4G out. This way, everyone gets to move forward without stepping on each other’s feet.

For Verizon, this will give the carrier the chance to show Apple what it’s missing out on by excluding nearly 93 million subscribers in the US.

Should Apple and Verizon start their relationship with baby steps with the iPad and then move to the iPhone 4G? Sound off in the comments below and let us know.

Verizon has 2 competitive challenges with an Apple iPad on CDMA. If they were to agree on a product launch, could or would Verizon be able and willing to meet the price point for the data plan that AT&T has set. Also, in its current form, the AT&T data network is faster, at least where both carriers have 3G. The places where there is 2G or no service with AT&T, and Verizon would have 3G, then many new sales could take place for those die-hard Verizon customers. As it is now, I believe that without an iPad, and without the Apple iPhone before LTE, that AT&T may overtake Verizon as the nations largest network of subscribers within a year or two. I truely don't believe there's a chance for the Verizon iPhone until there's a Verizon iPad.
  • Good points. It just makes sense to me that Verizon should work on getting the iPad first, then the iPhone.
