United Arab Emirates Bans Blackberry Functions
It cracks me up when people in the West think they have a Big Brother complex. No, actually there are indeed other regions of the world where having your communications sifted through is the norm and expected. Worse though, is when this lack of privacy also costs you needed functionality with something you own.
According to the BBC, both United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are going to be blocking instant messaging with Blackberry devices due to the fact that the two countries are unable to snoop on the conversations as desired. According to the article, the move to block this function is designed to force RIM’s hand to allow the authorities access to said data when its requested.
