Continued:

I’m quite satisfied with a $20 Logitech that does all of the above at half the cost. If you don’t know you should, plug in any USB mouse into a Mac and it works just fine. Obviously, Mr. Jobs (and it can be only him, as no one else is allowed to speak about the new products at Apple) thinks it’s a lot easier to come out with a new product rather than just putting a line on the Mac OS box saying, "Compatible with all USB mice."

What I am waiting to see, however, is how Steve is going to take the credit for "inventing" or perhaps "re-inventing" the two-button mouse?

Apple seems to be stuck in a time warp. It’s failing to realise the dynamics of the new market where consumers want everything to happen faster but don’t want the hardware to cost the world. People don’t want to be dictated, and that is exactly where Apple is failing. It needs to free its mind, free its software (when I say free I don’t mean open-source, I just mean natively cross compatible) and let people copy-paste music in their iPods. Why shouldn’t the Mac OS load on an AMD or Intel system? Simply selling the OS will give Apple a lot more money than it presently makes. Plus, it won’t have to depend on devising gimmicks like the "Mighty Mouse" to survive.

At the dawn of time, it is said – Adam succumbed to the charm of the Apple, took a bite and was doomed forever (I personally feel it had more to do with the fact that he was distracted by the lack of clothes on Eve and didn’t really care about what she was feeding him, but then again I’m no Theologist). The Adams and indeed Eves of today are a whole lot smarter than they were a decade ago. Therefore, it’ll take a lot more than a shiny Apple to lure them into a bite this time.
