(Column) - Continuing from my previous column on Google (The Future is Indexed: Thanks Google!), the bashing continues and this time, Google is given the ultimate insult (or honor, depending on how you look at it) of being touted as the next Microsoft, and that’s not because of its dominant market share in a particular area.

People love bashing poor old Microsoft for no reason. Sure it has made more than a few terrible propositions throughout its existence (like buying out small firms that possessed unique bits of technology) to disarm startup competition, but is it all that dreadful? Okay, maybe it is…

Again, the label might be justified, but if stifling the competition by engaging into "unfair" monopolistic business is why it has that label, then are we saying that there is no other company that has the size, the power and the sheer guts to pull off what Microsoft has without flinching too much under the media glare? Well, there wasn’t until Google came along. Everyone was mightily delighted that Google is a company with the size and the guts to dethrone Microsoft as the top technology firm, but as it progressed, the same guys are beginning to get wary and starting to develop serious jitters about the prospects. Some are even going to the extent of saying that we should let Microsoft stay as the top firm, as its better for a known devil to be on top than an unknown angel.
