With this, Microsoft is planning to give retail a mobile entertainment device for $1,000, or less hopefully. This might sound expensive, but consider the following: An 8" screen is wide enough to quickly jot down notes. It’s definitely better than an iPod for video playback. It’s again a viable solution for maps and browsing the Internet. If someone offers you a device that costs $1,000 that does everything a Tablet does, and lets you even have an occasional gaming session (as seen in the video), then I think a lot of us would purchase the Origami based on its portability. I would’ve loved to attach a Bluetooth headset to it and carry the Origami, since I despise carrying multiple devices. However, clean looks and effortless usability doesn’t mean it’s an iPod killer. Since the iPod retails for half the price, has an iconic brand and a plethora of onboard storage, Apple has nothing to worry about, at least not yet. If Origami debuts with a smaller version (say 4" screen) and does all this, while matching the iPod’s price, then we would have a real war on our hands. |
