Page 1 of 2 (Column) - The media format wars are getting into full swing. This much is clear with all vendors flaunting their products at CES. The fight is far from over. In fact, it has just begun. The movie studios are playing it safe and are backing both formats. Obviously, they don't want to risk angering one standard over another due to obvious reasons, but does the porn industry care about standards? The fight not withstanding, what is the biggest lure of high capacity discs? HD content. And what does the world watch the most? Yeah, you got it right, porn. No matter how prude you are and how much you counter argue, sex sells. Period. Obviously, if your favorite porn star or studio supplies your favorite porn babe on a Blu-Ray disc, you or quite a few of you would ensure that you have the compatible players at home. That translates into critical sales for these manufacturers. If you think Im talking out of my hat, think again. The porn industry has been one of the pioneers of adopting technology for the betterment of its services. Photography, print magazines and the Internet owe substantial amount of their revenue to this sole industry. There is no doubt that whatever the industry adopts is sure to become widespread quite soon. The reason is the tremendous fan following and the deep pockets of the industry people. With Digital Playground taking sides already, clearly, the fight is on and it's just a matter of time before other studios do the same and side with either of these standards.
