(Column) - Let’s face it - today's Macs are downright gorgeous. Even if their OS takes a little getting used to, the achieved simplicity is quite frankly remarkable. As luck would have it, the other day I found myself in the Apple store once again, and sure enough, I considered taking the plunge into the world of OS X.

Unix Security with the Ease of a Trip to the Mini-Mart. Security is a big hang up for me, but looking at it from the usability standpoint, I think that one of the biggest selling points for the Mac would have to be their software. Besides the fact that each Mac comes with everything you could ever need in the way of software, the outside aesthetics are really eye pleasing as an added bonus.

In the end, the Mac is selling ease of use more than anything else. With the idea of things "just working," I believe that a Mac user feels comfortable with the knowledge that his software and hardware is going to work right the first time. In the end, perhaps it comes down to perspective and personal need? That is something we will have to come to terms with on our own.

Cost vs. Value. When it comes to "going OS X," the hang up for a number of people would have to be cost. Because they are not seeing the savings from having to purchase extra software and avoiding OS related repair bills, the cost of buying a new Mac does leave a lot of people with sticker shock.

I have heard the argument of going with the Mac Mini, problem solved. Well, the hardware is hardly comparable to what you would see in an iMac; therefore, I never really bought into this argument myself. To me, you really want to own either the iMac or the higher-end MacBook or MacBook Pro options. Seriously, you are just going to get more bang for your buck, right?
