(Column) - Microsoft is actively moving forward with the release of their Vista operating system, and if you’ll remember, Beta 2 was released only a short time ago, but RC1 is already out the door and ready to be tested. Throughout the years of Vista’s development, it’s occasionally been hard to recognize any real progress, but once the release date approaches, things start to happen quickly.

At first, many were skeptical that Microsoft would be able to meet its final deadline of business availability by November, and consumer availability by January, but it looks like they’re pressing forward in a big way now. They can’t afford to miss another deadline, however, let’s just hope that that doesn’t impact the quality of the OS.

As I’ve said before, I’ve yet to install any of the Vista builds on my PC, and that’s not because I’m trying to make some sort of a statement. Instead, I want to make sure that my first experience with the OS is the best one possible so that I can make proper judgment.

If I would have downloaded one of the early beta releases and hated it due to the laundry list of problems, then that would have affected my complete view of the OS. Even though I’ve read so much about it, I’ll personally be surprised once I get a chance to use it for more than a couple of minutes. Who knows, maybe I’ll actually like it. From what I’ve read, that’s pretty doubtful, but I’ll keep my mind open.
