Continued...

Now that we have established that Google has already won an upcoming OS war without ever having to fire a single shot, this just leaves us with one question: Is Google friend or foe?

Since they are a company that is wiggling their way into almost every aspect of our online lives, it might be fair to say that they could potentially pose a threat to any outside competition. I don't know about you, but I simply don't believe that this qualifies them as my friend. Perhaps I am wrong about this?

Google fans will argue that those who prefer to not use Google products are free to avoid them as they see fit. Besides, Yahoo and Ask.com provide fair alternatives to their search engine. However, we must not forget that it's becoming more and more difficult to compete in the search engine market. Google is the undisputed king of that jungle. So it may be that one day, alternative search engines prove to be little more than a distant memory. Think about it, when was the last time you "Yahoo'd something"?

Suffice it to say, living in a world where you have practically no choice when it comes to your online services paints less than a rosy picture. And with the rumor that Google is gunning for eBay's PayPal and Skype, things are looking pretty grim for any long term competition within that sector of the market as well.
