Making The Upgrade Cycle. It's my opinion that if Microsoft is going to have a prayer for making the "PC upgrade deadlines," they had better get on it. They already missed the biggest part of the upgrade wave in 2004. However, if they hurry, they can at least catch the tail end of this on the enthusiast front.

Now let's say that no one decides to take Microsoft up on the upgrade. What's to say that if we had two PCs for sale; one with XP and one with Vista, that people might choose XP because they know it's going to work. It's a scary prospect to be sure, but it's beginning to look like it may happen.

Final Thoughts. Could a failed adoption for Vista be the end of the Windows era? Not at all. No, instead it will force Microsoft to learn a very difficult, but important lesson on understanding what the market is actually wants. At its core, Vista could be a value to a number of Windows users. Unfortunately, Microsoft has not been able to clearly define who Vista is hoping to appeal to. If, however, they trust that target market is to be the mainstream business, I'm afraid they will be sorely mistaken.
