There's just something about it that gets me into development mode. When I'm using that OS, I have a desire deep down in my bones to program something, analyze a technical specification, or take part in some other complicated procedure. Creativity is there to some extent, but it takes a back seat to the technical side of things. On the other hand, I just don't get as much of the technical stimulus on OS X. The urge to program or throw my brain into some other mentally taxing exercise isn't present, but instead, the creativity switch gets flipped on. I do all of my writing on OS X, and I also use it whenever I'm conceptualizing something or messing around with audio and video. For me, it's a perfect fit in those areas, and that makes it the number one tool in my technological tool belt. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. When people say that Macs mainly appeal to people with creative passion, they're not just saying that because the software available for the platform is totally different than what you can find for Windows. In fact, a lot of it is pretty much the same. The difference is that Apple has targeted OS X to be a creative professional's paradise by bundling several terrific digital media tools with the operating system and offering an environment that they would actually want to work in instead of giving them something that they feel insults them or hampers the flow of their creative juices. Could I use one OS to do everything? Sure. I would need to readjust my thinking a little bit in order to properly pull the convergence off, but it could be done. However, I'm more inclined to use both, especially since each OS helps me to think in an entirely different way. |
