(First Look) - It’s not a surprise to see Disney entering the consumer electronics market with products that are specially designed for budding technology enthusiasts. With four styles, Disney Chrome, Forever Princess, Sassy Pixie and That’s So Raven, to choose from, they appear to be the perfect gift for the child in your family. According to Disney, all four versions are creatively designed, which is apparent from the exterior and support both MP3 and WAV audio formats. Although the built-in storage capacity is only 128MB, the company does give you an option to upgrade it to 1GB. How exactly would that work is unclear at the moment. The battery lifespan of the unit is only eight hours, though the MP3 player does come with an integrated lithium-ion battery. The package also includes Windows Media software, a pair of earphones and lanyard with safety release. Although you can transfer music and data simply by dragging-and-dropping the files into the removable disk, you can also purchase Disney Jam Stand software, which will allow your kids to play music with hi-fi stereo sound while the player is charging. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the unit is $49.99 with Disney’s Jam Stand costing an additional $39.99, making the total to $89.98. Initial Thoughts: It’s obvious from the limited functionality and the creative designs that this MP3 player is not intended for serious gadget admirers, but for children, Disney’s Mix Stick is affordable and has just enough power to get them interested in technology and possibly even music. The price without the Jam Stand is affordable, but with the software, it brings up the cost of the unit far beyond its value. Unless you have really young children who are just starting to get interested in TV (Disney channels), this player may still hold some value, but if they are old enough to flip through channels, the $90.00 price tag is far too much, and you will be better off with a "serious" unit from one of the other manufacturers.
